As an Aveda Concept Salon and Spa from the very beginning, this vision is grounded in a partnership that values beauty with purpose, care with intention, and impact that reaches far beyond the chair.
Our History
Founded in 2005 by Christopher Gates, I AM began in Monkey Junction as a 2,000-square-foot salon with six chairs and four treatment rooms. In 2009, Sunni Rogers joined the team as an esthetician, later becoming a partner in 2017 and sole owner in 2020. Since then, the business has grown into a 5,000-square-foot salon and spa that now employs 32 people and features 16 salon chairs, 12 private rooms, a relaxation room, and a sauna and red light therapy room. The move to the current location also made room for a boutique of more than 1,000 square feet, offering not only Aveda products, but also FarmHouse Fresh, goods from local vendors, global artisans, and other purpose-driven brands that give back.

Owner/Permanent Makeup Artist
Originally from Michigan, Sunni has called Wilmington home since 2001. She joined I Am Salon and Day Spa in 2009, beginning her career in skincare before expanding into permanent makeup. With a background in Fine Arts and Architecture and a strong eye for detail, she is passionate about enhancing confidence through her work. She also values Aveda’s culture of care and the salon’s commitment to giving back and building community.

Manager
Ashlee is a dedicated Salon and Spa Manager with more than 15 years of experience in the beauty and wellness industry. Known for her commitment to exceptional guest service, she ensures every client feels welcomed, valued, and cared for. With a strong eye for detail and a focus on service excellence, Sunni leads the I AM team in creating a personalized, relaxing, and elevated salon experience.
